Warning: Full spoilers for the episode below."The First Day of the Rest of Your Life" may have faltered a bit as an actual season finale, but it did have the benefit of containing an exciting, crowd- pleasing final fifteen minutes. Overall, it was a good episode, though not a wholly satisfying season- ender. Mixed in here too was a strange bit of Sasha time- jumping as we switched back and forth between her in a confined space (where it sure seemed like she wasn't feeling too hot), sitting on a low rock wall with Maggie, in the Sanctuary with Negan and Eugene, and then some flashbacks that included Michael Cudlitz returning for a few moments as Abraham right before he took off on his final escort mission. I suppose it's not totally out- of- bounds to call Sasha's death a "big character death," but there are certainly bigger characters on the show. She got a grand, emotional exit, but she still wasn't one of the top- tier players. But that's never stopped this show from over- romanticizing people who we may not have been all that invested in when it's their time to leave the show. Even if many of us expected them to leave, as with the case of Sasha who, story- wise, felt like she was headed toward some sort of sacrifice, and whose presence going forward was iffy since Sonequa Martin- Green was cast on the new Star Trek series. I guess it's worth mentioning too that Sasha's death was sort of taken from the comics, however there it was a different character and it came about a little differently. Here it was made up to be a trap for Negan, in a way too that suggested that Eugene may have grown a small portion of spine and conspired with Sasha in her self- poisoning. So now, as we leave the season with everyone prepping for war, Negan's got at least two traitors in his midst. In his inner circle, in fact. Because yes, we'd made it all the way here to the season finale, where it was mostly assumed that Negan wouldn't die, and the show still made us wait for the mini- retribution that it had in store for us - wait until after Rick and the rest got put through the Negan ringer again too. That being said, because we knew the Kingdom and Hilltop were on their way, Rick's words to Negan about killing him and how every Savior was already dead (a callback to the words he spoke in the premiere) created a really cool moment. Rick was now prepared to lose people, including Carl and Michonne. No one was going to blame him for defeat. Everyone fighting back is prepared to go down swinging. Then came the tiger! Which was a hell of a lot of fun to watch - that thing constantly jumping in from off- screen to eat up the Saviors and "filthy garbage people." I kind of just wanted it to happen all the time. And Negan's reaction was really funny too. It wasn't even the best battle sequence this show has done, but because this season's been so slow- going, any type of action - - especially if it stands as a long- awaited measure of revenge - - can easily come off as the greatest thing ever. Oh, and how about those damn garbage people? Man, they've been rotten since the very start. Back when Rick met them I had no idea why he had that big smile on his face after he made the BS deal to go scavenger hunt some more guns for them. There was never anything about them that was endearing or trustworthy - and they tried to kill Rick for no reason! A ruthless politician will stop at nothing to conquer Washington, D.C., in this Emmy and Golden Globe-winning political drama. Watch trailers & learn more. At a press conference on Sunday, angry citizens ran off Jason Kessler, the organizer of a disastrous rally for white supremacists, neo-Nazis and other members of the. Plus, they weren't serving the Saviors. They didn't have a valid reason to fight back. Ugh, well I'm glad, at least, we don't have to move forward with them being in an official alliance with Rick. They can get mauled by the tiger like everyone else on Rick's s***list now. The Verdict. The Walking Dead's Season 7 finale still made us wait until the very end for the big retaliation scene that we've been clamoring for since the midseason premiere. But it had some interesting Sasha beats involving her self- sacrifice to impart in the meanwhile and though her plan may not have worked, it did show us that, possibly, Eugene could turn on Negan. You know, if it didn't involve too much from him and he was protected in the long run. Episode Recap Revenge on TV.com. Watch Revenge episodes, get episode information, recaps and more.
